Jaffna
Situated on the northernmost point of Sri Lanka, Jaffna is a peninsula city which has been historically the 9heart of a vibrant Tamil culture mixed with colonial influence. Famous for their spicy cuisine, especially seafood dishes, Jaffna is a popular tourist destination. Home to the Nallur Kovil, one of the most important Hindu Temples of Sri Lanka, its pooja ceremonies are spectacular. Ravaged by a 30 year civil war, it is now gaining popularity as a tourist destination, and boasts attractions such as the Jaffna Lagoon, Jaffna Fort (built by the Dutch) and Jaffna Library.
